C3 Youth Ministry
Who We Are:
Our youth group is creating a new generation of Disciples of Christ. The youth group at Collierville Christian Church is the perfect place for your child to be welcomed into a loving community, grow in faith through dedicated practices, and be challenge to sharing loving compassion with all people. We pride our ministry on working tirelessly to ensure that every student who visits us will feel welcome and encouraged by loving group of students and adults. Our Youth Group is broken up into two divisions…
Our Junior High Group (grades 6-8) is called Chi Rho - Chi and Rho are the first two Greek letters of Christ and they symbolize our students’ initial journey into a deeper faith experience. The goals for our junior high youth are to have a solid knowledge of the Bible, use that knowledge in daily application of their faith, and begin to develop a faith that is shaped around who God has made them as a person.
Our Senior High Group (grades 9-12) is called CYF – Christian Youth Fellowship or CYF symbolizes the incredibly important lesson that our Christian faith is always lived in community. Our High School youth are the perfect example of this. The ministry goals for our CYF youth are an ability to use the Bible as the most important guide of faith, to dig deeper into what we believe by asking the tough questions, to live out Jesus’ message to love all people as strongly as God has loved us.
What We Do – Weekly:
Sunday School – 10:10 AM - Each week our amazing volunteer teachers lead their classes on a journey into a deeper discovery of God’s word. The focus of this time is to learn the scriptures, discuss the implication it has on what we believe and understand about God, and find application in our students’ lives. We encourage each student to bring their own personal Bible to class. The senior high meets in room 106 and the junior high meets in room 108. Both classrooms are located directly off the fellowship hall. Currently, both Sunday School classes are studying the 12 Disciples looking specifically at their personality strengths and contributions to the development of the Christian Faith.
Youth Groups – Sundays, 4:00-5:30 PM – Open to all 6th-12th graders. Our time together during our youth group meetings are all about looking for different ways to have a whole lot of fun living into our faith. Activities range from Putt-Putt to Bible Study, Rock Climbing and Water Olympics on the church lawn. We rotate our focus between Mission, Discipleship, Fellowship, and Worship. Meetings are led by Courtney Brookshire, adult sponsors and the youth themselves. All are welcome to bring a friend!
Dinner and Recreation Night – Wednesdays, 6-8 PM – No one likes to miss our CCC Fellowship dinners and the youth are no exception. Our youth traditionally share a table of their own enjoying a time a fellowship and catching up. After dinner our youth are responsible for clearing the tables in the fellowship hall and we use the empty gym to play a game or two before heading out. Wednesday night activities include Dodgeball, Kickball, Bible Study catch up, and much more.
What Else We Do:
Camps and Retreats - Once a semester and once a summer both our CYF and Chi Rho Groups head up to one of the most beautiful places on earth…Bethany Hills Camp. This is a very special place for generations of Tennessee Disciples and youth retreats and summer camps are major high points for our students. For more info visitwww.ccdctn.org
Trips – Collierville is great, but our group loves adventuring outside our region on trips. These activities are scheduled at different times throughout the year. We have taken ski trips, rafting/canoe trips, and more. Still, no trips are as important to our ministry as our Youth Mission Trips. Each year we will take mission trips within the US and abroad. In March of 2012 we completed our second International Mission trip to the highlands of Guatemala to work with the rural poor.
So much more – We always have something going on with our youth so please check back from time to time to see what is happening. If you have questions or wish to be involved in our ministry as a student or volunteer please contact Courtney through the church.
